Imphal, February 21 2024:
RPI-A national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam has appealed to MLAs of both ruling and opposition parties not to engage in political vendetta but to exhibit unity for a better future of the state in the 5th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly commencing from February 28.Addressing the media at his Keishampat residence, here, on Wednesday, Maheshwar said that this is the time for all members of the House to take a united stand for safeguarding the integrity and identity of Manipur and urged members of both benches to adopt a historic resolution for safeguarding interest of the state and its people.
In case any member skips the session, people will naturally construe him/her as harbouring the idea to disintegrate the state, he said, while adding that such MLAs merit disqualification from the House.
Further stating that the people are questioning the government as to how long it would tolerate the anti-Manipur agenda and activities of Kuki CSOs and Kuki MLAs, Maheshwar contended that the two Kuki ministers in the N Biren government could be disqualified under Article 164 of the Constitution of India, given their activities.
He also enquired why the ethics committee of the state assembly is not recommending disqualification of the 10 Kuki MLAs, who are raising the demand for a separate administration.
Maheshwar also condemned the unfounded claim of a Kuki chief over the sacred Thangjing Hills and appreciated the statement issued by the state government against the claim.
He demanded the government to use central forces for evicting illegal settlement from the Churachandpur-Khoupum Protected Forest areas.
He also criticised the statement issued by Mizo Students' Union, claiming that such sectarian stand of the Union testifies nexus with Kuki militants, and demanded the state government to write to the Ministry of Home Affairs to initiate an enquiry into the activities of the union.
