Thoubal, March 15 2024: Denouncing the government's move of constituting Administrative Committee instead of conducting the long-pending Panchayat elections, villagers locked the Samaram Panchayat Ghar at Samaram Mamang Leikai under Wangjing Tentha CD Block on Friday.

During the protest, the villagers demanded conduct of Panchayat elections at the earliest and withdrawal of the order issued by the DC for constituting Administrative Committee.

Speaking on the sidelines, one Ningthoujam Ranjana asserted that the people cannot accept the government policy of denying the people their constitutional right to vote and elect own representatives.

She demanded that pending polls of Panchayat be conducted at the earliest, failing which Samaram Panchayat Ghar will remain under lock and seal forever.
