CBI director to arrive today to oversee probe

A special CBI team led by director of the agency Praveen Sood would be arriving in Imphal on Wednesday to oversee the investigation of the alleged execution of two students namely Hijam Linthoingambi (17) and Phijam Hemanjit (20), whose photos showing their last moment and lifeless bodies lying went viral in social media on Monday.
Source said that the CBI director and his special team would be arriving in Imphal in a chartered flight on Wednesday morning under the instruction of union home minister Amit Shah.
The information was conveyed to chief minister N Biren by Amit Shah himself over the phone, the source said.
Sharing the information chief minister N Biren posted on X, "In light of the distressing news that emerged yesterday regarding the tragic demise of the missing students, I want to assure the people of the State that both the state and central government are closely working together to nab the perpetrators" .
"To further expedite this crucial investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director, along with a specialised team, will be arriving in Imphal tomorrow morning in a special flight.
Their presence underscores the commitment of our authorities to swiftly resolve this matter.
I have been constantly in touch with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice," he wrote.
Meanwhile, 24 MLAs submitted a written appeal to union home minister Amit Shah seeking justice for the two students with an appeal to issue instruction to CBI to expedite the investigation like they do in regards to the May 4 viral video case.
The 24 MLAs, who signed the appeal are Th Satyabrata, Y Khemchand, II Dingo, Th Basanta Kumar, RK Imo, S Premchandra, Sheikh Noorul Hassan, Kh Ibomcha, S Keba, K Robindro, U Deben, Kh Loken, Md Abdul Nasir, Th Arunkumar, M Rameshwar, L Rameshwar, I Nalini, S Kebi, Th Radheshyam, Nishikant Sapam, Y Radheshyam, Kh Raghumani, S Rajen and Th Biswajit.
