Imphal, November 19 2023:
The commemorative function of the 26th ILP Movement in Kangleipak (Manipur) was jointly observed by civil society organisations at IPAK office on Saturday with PANDM president Yumnamcha Dilip -kumar, IPAK president Ksh Somorendro, IPSA president Birjeet Tourangbam, KIL president Rk Sanahanbi, ACOAM Lup president Sanjit Soraisam, CLK president Ch Pakpi Chanu and KSA president Bidyananda Sukham as presidium members.
During the observance, the attendees recalled the revocation of 'Permit system for entry into & exit from Manipur' on November 18,1950 by the government shortly after Manipur was annexed by India.
Manipur state durbar set up Foreigner office and collected large amount of tax.
Since the withdrawal of the permit, the collection of tax was stopped and outsiders flooded into the state as was evident from the unnatural growth of population in the census report, they pointed out.
Reminding how ILP was implemented from January 1, 2020 after intense movement by the people, they contended that failure of the government to formulate a proper guideline for implementation of ILP in Manipur has rendered the effort of the public useless despite the presence of the restrictive regime in place.
The observance held under the joint initiative of IPSA, PANDM, IPAK, ACOAM Lup, Kangla Mei, CLK, KIL and KSA also adopted several demands including ending of the present conflict, resettlement of the displaced people, restoring internet services and ensuring the presence of Manipur state government in the state.
