Imphal, September 13 2018: The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has demanded the State Government to take up necessary steps to put an end to the extortion, harassment and other illegal activities carried out by the NSCN (IM) against the innocent public immediately.

Speaking to media persons at AMSU H/Q at DM College campus today, the vice president of the student body, Peter Laishram said that the open extortion, harassment and other illegal activities carried out by the NSCN (IM) under the garb of the peace talk with the Central Government, is an open secret.

The recent September 3 incident when NSCN (IM) cadres openly assaulted AMSU secretary general is testament to the fact that there are designated camps of NSCN (IM) inside Manipur, he alleged.

Claiming that it is questionable if the Government is also involved in sharing the illegal taxes gathered from the people by the NSCN (IM), he urged both the Central and State Governments to declare the rules and regulations for collecting such taxes or to nd take up steps to eliminate such illegal tax collection by the outfit.

Demanding the State Government and the Central Government to punish the culprits involved in the assault case as well as to eliminate NSCN (IM) from Manipur soil, he warned that if the authorities concerned fail to do so, the association, with the people, will launch intense forms of agitation.
