Imphal, September 26 2023:
Janata Dal (United) has demanded befitting punishment to criminals behind the alleged cold-blooded murder of two students Phijam Hemajit and Hijam Lingthoingambi who went missing since July 6 .
Notably the photos of the duo before and after their killings went viral since yesterday and the Chief Minister's Secretariat issued a late night statement indicating that the case of their disappearance has been handed over to CBI.
Vice president of JD(U) Manipur unit, Sanjay Ahanthem reacted against the statement during a press conference at his Kumbi residence and said that people of Manipur are tired of assurances.
People want action, not mere statements, he said.
The emergence of the photos, after the duo have been traceless for almost 50 days, have left everyone shattered and infuriated.
The photos also indicated that they were held captives before being murdered mercilessly.
Assurance of action and statement of handing over of the case to the CBI will not do justice to the prevailing emotions and the sentiments of the people, he said.
The State police should book the perpetrators at the earliest possible and initiate legal actions before handing over to whichever investigating agency they deem fit, he said.
