MHRC Chairperson visits AR victims

Justice UB Saha, Chairperson of Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) visited Pallel, Kakching district and Molnoi, Tengnoupal district today.
During the visit, he reached out to seven persons who were grievously injured by Assam Rifles' crackdown on protesters near Pellel on September 8 .
The seven persons include four men and three women.
On September 8, the Assam Rifles resorted to firing live rounds at a crowd protesting near Pallel.
In the firing, two Meitei men identified as Yengkhom Jiten Singh (43) and Soibam Nanao Singh (35) succumbed to bullet injuries and as many as 92 civilian and three police personnel sustained injuries.
Kh Purel Singh (32) of Samaram Mayai Leikai got bullet injury at his right 'popliteal fossa' and S Daya (19) of Pallel was hit by a bullet at anterior upper thigh and exited through the groin area.

In another firing at Molnoi near Pallel, one suspected armed Kuki man was killed in a reported gun fight with security forces.
During the meeting with the MHRC Chairperson, the seven injured persons complained of not receiving any financial assistance from the district administration towards their treatment.
The MHRC Chairperson advised the district administration to look into the com- plaint raised by the injured victims.
Earlier, Justice UB Saha, accompanied by MHRC Member KK Singh, head of MHRC's Investigation Division Mamata Wahengbam, Inspector General of Police and Law Officer W Basan-takumar interacted with DIG Jogeschandra Haobijam, DC Tengnoupal and SPs of Kakching and Tengnoupal districts at the police guest house at Pallel.
Th Vikramjit Singh, SP Kakching informed the MHRC Chairperson that altogether 107 cases relating to ethnic violence have been registered at various police stations of Kakching district and a Special Investigation Team comprising 5 police officers have been constituted following an order passed by the Supreme Court.
An officer from district administration Kakching also informed the MHRC Chairperson that the State Government has provided compensation to the next of kin of the persons who died in the gun firing that took place at Pallel on September 8 .
The MHRC Chairperson and his team then heard the grievances raised by the Meitei community at the Pallel police station.
The locals told the Chairperson that after the September 8 incident, many students are unable to attend schools and all the shops at Pallel have remained closed.
After the interaction with the members of Meitei community, Justice UB Saha accompanied by DC and SP Tengnoupal moved to Molnoi village under Tengnoupal district which is located just a few distance away from Pallel police station.
Interestingly, other MHRC officials and Senior Manipur Police officers could not join the MHRC Chairperson as they all belong to the Meitei community.
At Molnoi, Justice UB Saha interacted with members of Kuki community and heard their grievances about non-availability of essential items including medicines.
During the interaction, Kuki women who had fled the village told the Chairperson that they want peace in the State of Manipur.
