Normal activities suspended

As a mark of condolence to the 13 Meiteis who were apprehended and brutally killed by suspected armed Kuki militants at Leithao village under Machi police station in Tengnoupal district on Monday, many markets in the valley districts including the three women markets of Khwairamband were shut down and normal activities suspended on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters in this regard, a women vendor, Huirem Binodini said that the decision to suspend normal activities in the markets was taken to pay homage to the 13 innocent Meitei youths who were captured and killed by suspected armed Kuki militants.
It is very unfortunate that such unwanted violent incident occurred and the women vendors of the three Women markets of Khwairamband and the mothers of Manipur expressed deep sorrow over the killing of 13 Meitei youths, she said, while adding that the state government should ensure that no such incident recur.
Appealing to the government to save the youth of Manipur, Binodina warned that the mothers of Manipur will be forced to take up intense agitation if the government fails to do so.
Women vendors of Paona and Thangal markets also suspended their normal activities and took part in mourning the death of 13 Meitei youths.
As a mark of condolence to the 13 Meitei youths, who were killed by suspected armed Kuki militants on Monday at Leithao village under Machi police station under Tengnoupal district, women members of Lukmai Sellup organised a candle light vigil at the three Khwairamband Ima Markets, here, on Tuesday.
People of Kakching also paid homage to the 13 slain Meitei youths by offering floral tributes and observing a 2-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls and pray for their souls to rest in peace, at Kakching Lamkhai.
