PBC Machonmi Choir celebrates 50 years of service

The Phungyo Baptist Church (PBC) Machonmi Choir celebrated 50 years of their services and association with music as the PBC choir at Mission Ground Alungtang, Ukhrul under theme "See, I am coming soon" yesterday.
The golden jubilee celebration commenced with the hoisting of flag by Rev Y Shaiza, former pastor of PBC followed by blowing of jubilee trumpet.
Chairman of Machonmi Choir, HA Wungnaopam in his welcome speech elaborated on the history of PBC choir and its formation.
He went on to state that PBC church was established in 1901, however there was no organised choir in the church.
In 1974, a group of 49 youths from different backgrounds with an objective to promote music and with the permission of the church authority, officially instituted PBC Choir and subsequently named it as Machonmi Choir literally meaning 'revitalized church choir' in Tangkhul dialect, he said.
Accordingly, 15 March has been observed as the raising day every year of Machonmi Choir, he added.
HA Wungnaopam further stated that the main objective of hosting the golden jubilee celebration is to pray for peace and bring unity in the State.
As a part of the celebration, choral competitions were held and PBC Choir , Ukhrul was declared the winner.
The one day event witnessed a myriad of musical shows from Paopho, Masotkhon Ministry and Machonmi choir.
Religious leaders of the Tangkhul community including Pastors of Ukhrul town were given a platform and opportunity to share their views on how to restore peace and unity among all communities of the State for peaceful coexistence.
Notably, intercessory prayer session were also held during the worship services.
