Imphal, November 19 2023:
Expressing angst and dissatisfaction with the violence in Manipur dragging on, ex-Minister AK Mirabai has asked if the Government is going to wait for more people to die instead of working out a solution to the crisis.
Speaking to the media on the occasion of Indira Gandhi birth anniversary, Mirabai said that there is no let up in violence in Manipur with one Leichonbam ongbi Abemcha Leima of Kangchup becoming the latest victim of the ongoing conflict.
Abemcha breathed her last on November 17 after undergoing treatment for gunshot wounds for several days at RIMS.
Further asking if the Government is waiting for more persons like Abemcha to die, the Congress leader said that the violence happening in Manipur under the double engine BJP Government is unprecedented.
The Government is also unable to locate the bodies of Phijam Hemanjit, Hijam Linthoingambi (went missing on July 6) and Maibam Avinash and Ningthoujam Anthony (went missing on November 5), she added.
Mirabai further said that the Government is helpless and they can't do anything other than give empty assurances amid the conflict.
The State Government exists only in name, she claimed.
Accusing the State Government of not putting in sincere efforts to end the conflict, Mirabai cautioned that Manipur may not return to normalcy anytime soon.
Mirabai went on to state that the BJP Government is unable to take any action against the Kuki MLAs and Ministers who openly demanded disintegration of Manipur.
She then urged the Government to wake up and see the suffering of the people.
