Imphal, November 18 2023:
Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur on Saturday organised a discussion on some important social issues such as proposal for voters deletion, alteration of Tamenglong district boundary, construction of Rani Maa Museum and prevailing situation in Manipur.
The programme held at Imphal was attended by organisation leaders from Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Youth Front, Student's leaders, senior leaders and scholars, former organisation leaders and citizens of Zeliangrong community, said a release issued by Media & Publicity Cell, Zeliangrong Civil Organisations (ZCOs).
The discourse mainly dwelt four issues namely proposed voters deletion from Tamenglong/Noney district with a total number of 14,034 voters (Tamei-8805, Tamenglong-5341 and Nungba-1888) to be deleted on the ground of photo similarities; alteration of Tamenglong district boundary when Jiribam district was created; construction of Rani Maa Museum and prevailing situation vis-a-vis Zeliangrong situation.
After a threadbare discussion, the gathering decided to strongly urge the authorities concerned to not take unilateral decisions regarding the proposal for voters deletion on the ground of photo similarities without giving the opportunity to the voters to express their opinion & view on the matter.
It was observed that deletion of names from the electoral roll without proper identification or verification merely on the ground of photo similarities entry would be a gross violation to citizens right to exercise his/her citizen's right guaranteed under the Constitution of India.
In regard to alteration of Tamenglong district boundary, it was observed that the District Re-Organisation Committee formed in 2018 did not invite nor seek the opinion, view and suggestion of the people regarding boundary reorganisation issue.
The gathering urged the authorities concerned to review the matter at the earliest as the alteration of Tamenglong district boundary in a discreet manner is not acceptable.
In regard to Rani Maa Museum, it was pointed out that the Central Government had proposed to construct a museum in honour of Rani Maa (Rani Gaidinliu), freedom fighter of India, as one of the Prime Minister of India's ambitious projects with estimated amount of more than Rs 50 crores.
It was decided to urge the authority concerned to accelerate the construction work and complete the project at the earliest.
On the prevailing situation in Manipur, the gathering urged the Government of India to not take any hasty decision without taking the interest of all particularly the Zeliangrong community while attempting to resolve the conflict.
The gathering further urged the Government to not marginalise the Zeliangrong people while trying to appease others by granting certain political arrangements without considering the interest of the Zeliangrong people who are indigenous people of the region.
