Imphal, March 15 2024:
Kuki militants carried out fresh attacks at Meitei villages located in the peripheral areas of Imphal West in the wee hours on Friday.
Timely intervention by State and Central forces deployed in these areas averted casualties.
At around 3.30 am, heavily armed Kuki militants approached Meitei villages from Langjingmanbi hill range located near Khoken village and attacked Sangaithel Meitei village by firing indiscriminately.
Soon after the attack, personnel of 5/9 Gorkha Rifles, CRPF and personnel of Patsoi police deployed in the area retaliated, forcing the Kuki militants to retreat from the area.
There was no report of any injury on the side of the security personnel during the attack by Kuki militants, sources said.
After the exchange of fire ceased, a combined team of State and Central paramilitary forces conducted a cordon and search operation in and around Khoken village but there was no report of any arrest or recovery of arms and ammunition.
Taking serious note of the renewed attack by Kuki militants, security personnel deployed in the area have been put on high alert to foil any further attack by armed Kuki militants on Meitei villages.
