Thoubal, February 08 2024:
Taking strong exception to the diktats of Kuki militants to not even sell water and grocery items to State force personnel at Moreh, Meetei Community Joint Co-Ordinating Committee (MCJCC) Waithou to Kiyam Siphai, Haokha and Thoubal Khunou has launched an indefinite counter blockade to stop transportation of goods to the border town, today.
Notably, the Committee had on February 5 served an ultimatum cautioning that the counter-blockade will be launched if the Kukis don't lift the ban by February 7 .
It is reported that the Meetei Coordinating Committee Tronglaobi to Torbung and Waikhurok is also prepared to launch similar counter-blockade in Bishnupur from tomorrow onwards if the prohibition imposed by 'Kuki volunteers' on shopkeepers at Moreh is not lifted.
Dozens of people came out along Imphal-Moreh at Babu Bazar in Thoubal and stopped goods laden vehicles from heading toward the border town after launching the counter-blockade.
Speaking to the media by the sideline, treasurer of the Committee Khumanthem Inaocha Singh said that Kuki terrorists threatening the shopkeepers at Moreh to not sell anything to the State force is inhumane and will not be tolerated.
Saying that they won't allow transportation of goods and essentials to Moreh until and unless the ban on shopkeepers is withdrawn, Inaocha urged the State Government to take up befitting actions against the Kuki terrorists and make sure the State forces get their supplies.
Notably, the MCJCC on February 5 condemned the ban on selling goods to State forces at Moreh who are there to enforce law and order.
The MCJCC had also said that the violence in Manipur erupted from Churachandpur after the Kukis started bulldozing and burning Meitei villages.
The statement had cautioned that they will consult with local clubs and civil society organisations to stop transportation of goods and essentials to all Kuki villages if the ban on selling even water and grocery items were not withdrawn by February 7 .
