Imphal, December 05 2023:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has hailed the government for its decision to enact penal law for unfair practices in class X and XII examinations in a recent cabinet meeting.
In a release, DESAM H.O secretary publicity & propaganda Thoudam Shyamjai stated that the student body has been exerting pressure on the government and authorities concerned for enacting penal law for unfair practices in examination.
Recalling the order/recommendation issued by the then acting chairman of Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Khaidem Mani regarding the petition filed by DESAM for enacting penal laws on March 11, 2021, he said that the student body also exerted pressure on the education minister and the director for translating the recommendations into actions.
The secretary also demanded for implementing a law for punishing those encouraging unfair practices in examination, as already resolved by the state cabinet.
DESAM has taking up extra efforts in dealing with question leak, impersonation, mark tampering and use of unfair means in class X and XII examinations so as to ensure quality education in the state.
However, the wrongdoers easily escaped as there is no law to punish them.
As such, there is the dire need for enacting penal laws to take actions against them to protect the society, he added.
Shyamjai further demanded to the government to promulgate the law before the commencement of Class X and XII examination 2024 and take stringent actions against those involved in unfair practices.
