Pigs vaccinated with Korean vaccine die faster

Imphal, April 19 2013 :
Pigs vaccinated with Korean made swine fever vaccine, it appears, are more suspectible to diseases and die in case they get infected by any disease but pigs spared from the same unauthorised vaccine remain ill for a longer period and they do not die.
This has been observed in many pigs.
All 32 pigs reared by one Sapam Noren of Heingang Chonthabi were vaccinated with the Korean made vaccine.
In the last few days, 14 pigs have died after they got infected with an unknown disease.
On receiving reports about infection of pigs at Singjamei Waikhom Leikai, The Sangai Express conducted a spot enquiry.
It turned out that the pigs were not vaccinated with the Korean made unauthorised vaccine.
Even though the exact nature of the disease infecting the pigs could not be ascertained, symptoms shown by the pigs reared by Sapam Noren at Heingang Chonthabi seem to be more severe than the symptoms shown by pigs at Waikhom Leikai.
Notably, the Indian strand of virus which causes swine fever among pigs is different from the Korean strand.

The Sangai Express had earlier reported that because of the difference in virus strands, Indian pigs vaccinated with the Korean made swine fever vaccine are prone to more severe forms of diseases than pigs vaccinated with the Indian vaccine.
Pigs which are suffering from an unknown disease at Singjamei Waikhom Leikai belong to one Moirangthem Nanao.
Out of a total of eight pigs reared by Nanao, seven have been infected by an unknown disease.
The pigs which are around seven/eight months old have not been vaccinated with the Korean made swine fever vaccine.
Shivering, loss of appetite and excretion of wet dung are primary symptoms of the unknown disease, Nanao said.
Excretion of whitish dungs were observed for the first time today and all the pigs have become very weak.
Nanao even consulted veterinary doctors at Sanjenthong yesterday as the pigs become weaker day by day.
As advised by the veterinary doctors, Nanao have started injecting the pigs with four different types of injections including Exact-750 .
During the past month since the pigs started showing symptoms of an unknown disease, anti-fever drugs have been injected many times.
However, no sign of recovery can be seen till date, Nanao added.
Meanwhile, it is reported that samples of fluids collected by the State Veterinary Department on April 18 from some pigs reared at Heingang Chonthabi and Luwangshangbam would be sent to Guwahati tomorrow as the type of disease infecting the pigs cannot be confirmed here.
