Manipur unit of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) will announce the names of its candidates for the next election in November this year, said MLA Th.Shaymakumar, President of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Manipur unit at the press conference held at its office at Imphal today.
Saying that his party has already started preparations for the next state assembly election expected to be conducted in 2017, Shyamkumarinformed media persons that AITC General Secretary Mukul Roy will be visiting Manipur on November 17 to chalk out poll strategy and he will also announce five names to offer party tickets for the upcoming assembly election during the visit.
Shaymakumar has lambasted the Congress party and challenged the Congress MLAs, who had helped party candidate Elangbam Dwijamani to get the Hiyanglam seat, if they have the courage to take care of the improvement work on Imphal-Jiribam road which has remained in bad condition just like they took keen interest in the just concluded by-poll to the constituency.
The 47 MLAs of the ruling Congress Party spent several nights in Hiyanglam constituency while campaigning for party candidate Dwijamani who won the seat in the by-poll, Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee (MPTCC) president Th Shyamkumar said while addressing the media at the party office on Wednesday.
"I challenge all the Congress MLAs if they have the guts to take care of the improvement work on Imphal Jiribam road (NH-37) in the same manner they used all strength during the HIyanglam by-poll," Shyamkumar said.
He said the campaign for the Congress candidate was turned into a high-voltage one, and that they even spent several nights in the constituency wooing and pressurizing voters.
Because of these great efforts, the Congress was able to claim the seat, Shyamkumar said, but expressed that he was doubtful on the commitment made by the victorious party to the people of Hiyanglam.
The Andro MLA said, "Trinamoool was the runner up in the by-poll which had clearly shown love of the party by the Hiyanglam electorate and so we want to thank for it" .
