Flood situation grim, many inspect

The water levels of the flooded areas of Kakching district has increased after the heavy downpour yesterday .
The Deputy Commissioner of Kakching, Neilenthang Telien inspected the flood hit areas of the district today where relief aids were also distributed .
Speaking to media persons, Neilenthang stated that areas under Sugnu AC like Serou, Sugnu, Khaobuk, Wapokpi, Tangjeng, Khongyam, Nungoo, Chairel, Pangantabi and Kakching Khunou has been badly affected by the flood .
Keirak, Wabagai Thingel Leikai and Wabagai Tera Urak under Wabagi AC along with Kakching Chumnang Leikai, Kakching Wairi (Kakching AC) and Lamjao in Hiyanglam AC has been reported with grave flood situation .

Altogether 19 relief camps have been set up with three camps at Serou, seven at Sugnu, three at Chairel, two at Keirak and one each at Wapokpi, Tangjen Khunjao, Kakching Chumnang, the DC said .
He asserted that the authorities concerned have begun distributing relief aid to the victims at the relief camps while PHED and Health Department are also preparing for necessary relief measures .
Nearly 30 houses have been carried away by the flood, Neilenthang said and added that the number of damaged houses are still counting .
Altogether 600 victims have reached the relief camps set up in Kakching district .
On the other hand, district administration, Kakching, agriculture, fisheries department and other concerned authorities have started the disaster survey and the reports will be announced to the people within 2-3 days, the DC asserted .
MLA of Wabagai AC, Md Fajur Rahim also visited several affected areas of the AC today .
He stated that the main cause of the flood in the AC is from the overflowing of Sekmai river which has hit Keirak and Wabagai Thingel Leikai at present .
Relief camps and necessary assistance will be given for the areas, at the earliest, with the help of DC, Kakching and SDO, Kakching .
Amidst the assistance provided by the DC as well as the concerned authorities, 39 AR Bn, Sugnu post also took the initiative to assist the people like traffic management by setting up picquets on NH 102 .
A Coy with a rescue team helped the locals cross the roads and also provided transportation to people who required medical help at Sugnu hospital.
