Three Bills should not be politicised : O Joy

Imphal, May 17 2016: The three Bills passed by the Manipur State Assembly last year should not be politicized by any section of the society as the Bills are to safeguard the indigenous populace of the State, stated seasoned politician Okram Joy.

O Joy was speaking at the 17th foundation day ceremony of Lainingthou Khagemba Thougal Lup held today at Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai.

He said that the Bills were passed after due consideration and consents were taken from various political parties of Manipur.

He said that the Bills are for the benefits of all ethnic groups.

When asked of various unwanted incidents which have occurred in the series of protests and agitation, he said that such happenings are very unfortunate.

He cautioned people not to launch such protest which could lead to disastrous consequences and disrupt the social and political structure.

"Police personnel or any law enforcing agency should work out cordial ways to control agitators or protesters," O Joy added.

The foundation day ceremony of Lainingthou Khagemba Thougal Lup was organized by the 17th Khagemba Laikon Kanba and Foundation Day Celebration Committee of Lainingthou Khagemba Thougal Lup.

Former Minister O Joy attended the function as the chief guest while president of Lainingthou Khagemba Thougal Lup Thokchom Kiran Kumar was the functional president.

Zilla Parishad Member of Imphal West Sagolsem Ronel and Pradhan of Maibam Leikai Zilla Parishad Ngagom Kunjarani were the guests of honour.

As part of the observance, an exhibition match of 'Yubi Lakpi' (an indigenous game of Manipur) and 'Mukna' (a form of Manipuri wrestling) was also organized.

Founding members of Lainingthou Khagemba Thougal Lup who had taken active role to protect the land of Lainingthou Khagemba were honoured with simple gifts.

A souvenir was also released by the dignitaries.

O Joy remembered King Khagemba as one of the greatest rulers of Manipur.

Zilla Parishad Member, Imphal West Sagolsem Ronel highlighted that 'Lainingthou' Khagemba was one ruler who worked for the betterment of people.

Recognizing such deeds from a ruler, he was given the title of 'Lainingthou' and worshipped by many people across the State.
