Imphal, February 02, 2012:
Riding on confidence of returning not less than 10 MLAs to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly, the State unit Communist Party of India (CPI) is of the firm belief that it would play a crucial role in the formation of the next Government.
A joint session of CPI state executive members and party candidates in the just concluded election was held today at the party's Irabot Bhavan conference hall during which possible post-election scenario was minutely discussed.
The party candidates presented a detailed account and personal assessment of the poll's outcome.
Speaking to newspersons after the meeting, CPI state secretary and party candidate in Wangjing-Tentha Assembly Constituency Dr M Nara asserted that election to the 10th State Assembly will record the highest number of successful candidates for the political organisation.
He maintained that the CPI contested the Assembly election with the firm objective of wiping out domination of the State's administration by the 'contractors', protect Manipur's territorial integrity, root out corruption, find political solution to the insurgency problem and herald a new Manipur.
As per assessment by the CPI there would be more than 10 party MLAs elected to the State assembly, claimed Dr Nara who also opined that no political organisation will manage absolute majority on its own.
With a new coalition Government in the State a forgone conclusion role of the CPI will be vital in the formation of the next Government for which the party will strive to ensure a more stable Government that the previous ones, he affirmed.
To a query whether there would be a third term of SPF Government, Dr Nara contended that the SPF innings is almost over.
While not confirming on whether the CPI would continue to be an ally in case a Congress-led Government takes shape, he also stated that only after final declaration of the election result CPI would decide with which political organisation it would work with.
On the otherhand, sources confided that CPI has been intimated by the PDF allies of NCP and MPP to work together for formation of a new Government.
