South African politician-turned-missionary, Cliff Mitthee today said Nagaland has lots of opportunity to benefit from the tourism sector and suggested that the Nagaland Government should bring in small scale tourism industry to explore avenues where people in the villagers stand to benefit the most.
The South African MP-turned missionary, who is on a tour of Nagaland and parts of the sub-continent including Bhutan, said Nagaland, particular the rural areas have potential for development in the tourism sector as the Nagas� way of living is unique and very interesting.
"Nagaland should allow tourism to come in.
There are lot of opportunities to explore and exploit this sector", the former MP, who was "overwhelmed" with the hospitality of the Na-gas, said adding, "The villagers stand to benefit the most".
The missionary, who called on Health and Family Welfare Minister, Thenucho, at his official residence today, however, expressed sadness to see the poverty of the Naga people.
While expressing happiness to see that the Nagaland government and the people of Nagaland are fully committed to Christ, he suggested to the Minister that the habit of having joint prayer meetings between Government employees of the various departments, the churches and also the private sector be initiated in order to bring the people together.
Lamenting the poor economic condition of the state, he said there is a need to explore avenues to improve the economy of the state.
"You cannot preach to empty stomachs", he said.
He, however, was appreciative of the state Government�s efforts to help the people through its schemes.
"The Government is doing a good job to uplift its people", he stated.
Training program for Tamenglong youths: The Association of Food Scientists and Technologists of India, Manipur chapter would be organizing a 2-week training programme on fruits and vegetables preservation for local youths of Tamenglong district at Tamenglong district headquarters from October 18 to 31.The training programme is being organized as part of the self employment generation programme of the district under the sponsorship of Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).
