Imphal, November 26 2015:
Veteran politician Okram Joy who joined BJP recently has questioned the State Congress Government's silence on violent disruption of a victory march taken out by supporters of a victorious BJP candidate on November 24 .
Speaking to media persons at the Ningomthong residence of newly elected MLA Th Bishwajit this evening, Joy said that the violent incident which took place at the gate of UNACCO School at Khongman on November 24 was a life attempt on Th Bishwajit.
It was a clear case of criminalization of politics.
It is equally condemnable that the Congress Government has been maintaining deafening silence on the matter, he added.
Any Government which allows thugs and other criminal elements to run amok in the society would not last long, Joy warned.
Some fabricated stories have been found published in certain sections of media regarding the incident.
These fabricated stories can never cover up the facts and circumstances of the incident.
The incumbent Government should be held accountable for any untoward incident which breaks out as repercussions of the November 24 violence, Joy said.
BJP Manipur Pradesh president Th Chaoba said that the people of Thongju AC have given befitting reply to all the awkward activities carried out by those elements fascinated by the gun culture.
What is rather disheartening is the failure of the Government to carry out what is expected from a responsible Government.
People were asking if the Government was investigating into the shooting incident at the residence of a BJP supporter at Thongju Pheijaleitong in the intervening night of November 19 and 20 which left a toddler injured.
Again, eight people were left injured when a victory march taken out after the election results were declared was disrupted by violent force.
All these incidents should be investigated thoroughly and BJP would not let them off easily, Chaoba added.
Re-elected MLA Th Bishwajit too said that the incident which took place in front of UNACCO School was a life attempt on him.
He questioned why a net was put over UNACCO building and why hockey sticks and stones were stocked inside the building.
Hundreds of people who were directly involved in the incident are prepared to appear as witnesses before any Court.
Clarifying that he has no personal enmity with UNACCO, Bishwajit maintained that they must explain why they attacked him.
BJP spokesman RK Shivchandra who directly encountered the incident said that supporters of Bishwajit who were taking out a victory march were first attacked by opening fire and pelting stones at Pheijaleitong.
The violent disruption took place on the way to Khongman from Bashikhong.
Some two-wheeler borne people who were leading the march were first assaulted using hockey sticks.
The marchers responded by pelting stones and they were retaliated by opening fire, Shivchandra said.
The attack was pre-planned and it was evidenced from the net put over UNACCO building.
Moreover, the school was closed for the day at 11 am.
Two other supporters of Bishwajit who encountered the attack said that UNACCO managing director N Irabanta was mobilizing his staff to raise an uproar.
According to them, all the gun shots came from UNACCO building.
