Low turnout undermines targeted testing, 23 test positive

The targeted Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) continued to bear no fruit as only 204 persons were tested at four locations in the two Assembly Constituencies today.
Altogether 23 were found positive for COVID-19 .
This is the second time the targeted testing has failed due to low participation of the locals.
Yesterday, only 16 persons were tested at Khekman in Lilong Assembly Constituency.
It may be noted that the testing drives are being conducted at Wangoi, Wangjing-Tentha and Lilong Assembly Constituencies where by-elections were held on November 7 .
The targeted testing was launched for Wangjing-Tentha Assembly Constituency today at Wangjing and Sapam where tests were conducted on only 148 persons.
Two medical teams conducted the targeted testing at Wangjing Wangkhei community hall for Wangjing Lamding Municipal area and Sapam community hall for areas under Sapam Chingtham Gram Panchayat.
Local MLA Paonam Brojen was also present but despite his presence and appeals to the public to take the test, the drives received very low turnout.
Altogether, 73 including children were tested at Wangjing Wangkhei community hall and all were found to be negative for COVID-19 .
75 persons were tested at Sapam community hall and 8 of them tested positive for COVID-19 .
On the other hand, only 56 persons were tested at two camps opened at Nungei Aided UJB School and Turel Ahanbi Mayai Primary Madrassa for Lilong Assembly Constituency.
32 people were tested at Nungei Aided UJB School and 15 tested positive for the virus.
24 persons were tested at the Lilong Turel Ahanbi Mayai Primary Madrassa camp and all were found negative.
The drive will continue for Wangjing-Tentha AC on November 22 at Tentha PHC and Langthabal Keithel Macha community hall.
The drive will reach Tekcham High School and Wangjing Hodamba community hall on November 23; Phundrei Madrasa and Kairembikhok community hall on November 24; and Lalit Madhop High School and Wangjing community hall on November 25 .
