Newly elected MLAs inspect dev works

Imphal, March 28 2012: Newly elected MLA of Thongju Assembly segment Th Biswajit has expressed reservations over the poor quality of development works taken up in his Constituency.

The MLA inspected different development works executed before 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election at different localities of the Constituency today.

The MLA was accompanied by PWD Imphal East Executive Engineer N Jaichand and Assistant Engineer Prakash.

In many cases, drains constructed before Assembly elections were found unmatched with the specified measurements.

It was also found that quality was not maintained in the construction of many of the drains.

Expressing concern over the poor quality of works, the MLA said that it was unfortunate to execute development works in such an improper manner.

He also urged the concerned to construct public assets honestly so that it may last long.

The MLA directed the officials concerned not to give clearance for withdrawal of bill amount until these works are reconstructed properly.

The team also detected many technical errors in the culvert constructed at Kangujam point of Khongman-Bashikhong.

Th Bishwajit directed the PWD engineers to ask the contractor concerned to reconstruct the culvert after making rectification of the errors.

The MLA said, he would put in effort to include necessary fund amount in coming plan budgets for the construction of roads, schools, water supply schemes and health centres.

He further said that special spot verifications for the construction works hastily taken up before Assembly elections will continue.

It may be mentioned that Thongju Kendra Development Committee had urged the Departments concerned to look into the authenticity of work orders for the alleged hasty development works taken up before the election.

The committee had also urged the MLA of the Assembly segment to look into the matter.

The Committee had also warned that the committee would complain the Vigilance Department if necessary verifications were not done.
