Imphal, April 24 2011:
National spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Prakash Javadekar, who arrived here today to oversee the State unit's preparation for the forthcoming Imphal Municipal Council election, has expressed serious resentment over the SPF Government's failure to address problems of adequate drinking water and electricity supply as well as unavailability of text books in the market.
Talking on a wide range of issues besetting the State at present, he also demanded investigation into the ambush on Phungyar Assembly Constituency MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) .
Speaking to newspersons at the Nityaipat office of BJP Manipur Pradesh soon after his arrival on a three-day visit, Javadekar wryly remarked that inability of the SPF Government to provide water, power and text books to the people will make a strong case for inclusion in the Guinness Book of World records.
Affirming that BJP will field maximum number of candidates in the ensuing IMC polls and would campaign intensely to expose the Government's failure to provide these basic needs, the BJP Parliamentarian also alleged ceaseless indulgence of the SPF Government in corruption rather than strive to mitigate hardships being faced by the people.
He also assured that BJP would highlight suffering of the common people on the floor of the Parliament during the forthcoming monsoon session.
Further noting that the State's Transport Department has failed to check transport fares inspite of the general commuters feeling the pinch as transporter operators have been hiking the fares as and when they wish, Javadekar also put Manipur at the top among the corrupted States of the country with the assertion that recruitment procedures of security personnel such as IRB and Manipur Rifles involves huge exchange of money and favouritism instead of merit being the criteria.
Holding the SPF Government responsible for the bloody attack on Wungnaoshang keishing and his security escort, that led to the death of six security personnel and two other civilians, on April 15 at near Riha village in Ukhrul district, he said "ambush on the legislature killing of eight persons is a serious incident and we are strongly condemn it.
We demand that the incident be probed by the NIA which deals with terrorism" .
While iterating that the BJP will contest in all the 27 wards of IMC in the May 25 hustings and asserting that 'we will come out with encouraging results', he further announced that the BJP will soon set into motion preparation of the party for the next State Assembly elections which is likely to be held in the early part, next year.
Highlighting recent cases of the State's Advocate General suffering bullet wounds after being shot by a legislature and killing of a youth by a senior Minister's son, he demanded that these incidents deserve to be investigated at the highest level as they testify breakdown of the State's law and order mechanism.
Taking a jibe at the Prime Minister, Javadekar said Dr Manmohan Singh was once regarded as an economist and a clean politician, 'but now he has failed miserably in both' .
Despite the PM's frequent announcement that price of essential commodities would be controlled, inflation and corruption cases had risen thereby illustrating failure of Dr Manmohan, he maintained while referring to the 2G and Commonwealth Games farces as evidence of severe corruption in the UPA Govt.
