Imphal, July 15 2016 :
Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has clarified that rescuing 21 children from Imphal airport yesterday was not against any particular religion or community or minority group in any manner.
The rescue operation was carried out with a solemn objective to check and prevent child trafficking since Manipur has been a fertile source for human trafficking as testified by the reported repatriation cases of around 500 children in the last seven years, said a statement.
However, a large number of children and girls are still untraceable, hence the exact figure of trafficked children is still unknown, MCPCR said.
It further clarified that the rescue operation was conducted in compliance with the Supreme Court directive passed on September 1, 2010 and exercising the power and functions as vested under Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005 and the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights Rules, 2011 .
It is a bounden duty of every law enforcing agency, Government Departments, media, civil society organisations and responsible citizens to ensure the rights and provide co-operation to MCPCR as and when situation arises, it added.
MCPCR further said that this time, police and anti-human trafficking unit assisted MCPCR in carrying out the task.
However, dragging the names of CISF and Airport Authority of India is an unfair way is unwarranted and irrelevant.
Saying that MCPCR is trying at its level best to complete necessary verification from Maharashtra and Gujarat for speedy disposal of the case, the statement said that it is through every one's co-operation MCPCR could protect the undeniable rights of the children.
