Imphal, January 14 2021: Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh has donated Rs 10,00,500 towards construction of Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Temple from his salary, making him the first man from Manipur to donate towards the temple construction work.

A press release issued by DIPR said that some Cabinet Ministers of the Biren Government also donated certain amount to the trust.

N Biren handed over the amount to the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust today at Imphal.

According to its blueprint, the temple would be constructed within an area of 2.7 acres at Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

The temple will cover 57,000 square feet and it would have three storeys and each storey would be 20 feet high.

The temple will be equipped with both lift and ramp and there would be five mandaps.

There would also be library, archives, museum, research centre, yagyashala, Vedpathshala, Sathsangh Bhavan, dining hall, administrative office, open theatre, Dharamshala, rest house for VIPs, exhibition hall, parking lots etc within the temple complex.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Shri Ram Temple on August 5 last year.

A decades-long title suit over the site at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh was settled by the Supreme Court in November 2019.Both Hindus and Muslims have accepted the Supreme Court verdict over Ram Janmbhoomi (the birthplace for Lord Rama).

According to a leaflet published by the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust, Shri Ram is the incarnation of truth and He is the soul and spirit of Bharat.

To build a magnificent temple at the birthplace of Shri Ram has been a common longing of all the people of Bharat, it said.

Starting from 1528, devotees of Shri Ram undertook mass civil movements 76 times to construct a splendid temple at His birthplace.

In the course of the centuries old temple movement, more than four lakh people paid with their lives.

The temple movement gained momentum in 1984 .

After the decades long legal battle, the Supreme Court passed a landmark verdict on November 9, 2019 by referring to the Ground Penetrating Radar Survey (GPRS) photographs and historical facts which declared "...the particular area measuring 14,000 square feet belongs to the Ramlala..." .

It was this historic judgement which paved way for the construction of Shri Ram Temple at Ayodhya.

On the other hand, Shri Ram Mandir Nirman Nidhi Samarpan Samiti, urged the people of Manipur to support their 'Nidhi Samarpan' campaign that was launched today.

The samiti requested everyone to show their support to the campaign by extending donations to the volunteers of the samiti that will be visiting the houses in every locality starting today and will be continued till February 27, said a statement issued by Shri Ram Mandir Nirman Nidhi Samarpan Samiti today.

The statement added that the confusion surrounding the ownership of the site for Ram Temple was cleared by a landmark judgement passed by the Supreme Court of India on November 9, 2019.The construction of the temple has started under the supervision of 'Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra', a trust specially formed to overlook the construction of the temple after 'Bhoomi Puja' was performed by PM Narendra Modi in the presence of prominent religious leaders on August 5, 2020, added the statement.
