AR foils IED terror bid by insurgents

Imphal, January 14 2021:
A major terror attack bid was foiled on Wednesday after vigilant Security Forces successfully thwarted attempts by inimical forces to carry out blasts in Bishnupur District of Manipur along NH 2 by planting remote controlled IEDs in the run up to Republic Day.
An AR statement said that upon being tipped off by own sources about possible movement of a suspected armed cadre in Khwairakpam near Tera Urak Industrial Estate, a cordon and search operation was jointly launched by Assam Rifles and Bishnupur Police Commandos in Ngakchroupokpi for nabbing the suspected insurgent.
After being confronted by one of the columns, the fugitive tried to escape but was apprehended and on further interrogation revealed that he was an over ground worker of the banned extremist group UNLF.
The individual who identified himself as Khundongbam Lanjiba Singh accepted to be an active civilian member of the outfit and also admitted that he had received specific instructions to plant the explosive in order to target the Security Forces.
The recoveries include .32 mm pistol with two magazines, 08 live rounds, one gelatin pack weighing 415 grams, 02 detonators, electronic safety fuze and cordless remote control initiator for detonating the explosive.
The seized items along with the apprehendee have been handed over to the police authorities for further investigations.
