Imphal, October 12 2019: Imphal East district commando arrested two vehicle lifters/ drug peddlers and recovered 5 two-wheelers as well as 800 WY tablets yesterday evening , from Achanbigei Mayai Leikai, under Heingang PS, Imphal East.

The arrested persons, along with the recovered stolen vehicles and seized WY tablets, were displayed before media persons today morning at Imphal East SP Complex.

Briefing media persons, SP Haobijam Jogeshchandra stated that yesterday, at around 4.30 pm, upon receiving specific information regarding the presence of some anti-social elements in and around Achanbigei Mayai Leikai area, a team of Imphal East district commando launched a search operation in the area.

During the search, one vehicle lifter identified as Pungsubam Chitaranjan alias Roshan (35) s/o Munal of Achanbigei Mayai Leikai was arrested from his residence at around 5.15 pm, along with the recovery of a stolen scooter (Honda Activa) from his possession.

On further verification of Pungsubam Chitaranjan, it was revealed that one of his associate identified as Loitongbam Raghumani (40) s/o (L) Ramdhon of Hiyangthang Mayai Leikai, to whom he used to sell the stolen vehicles, was also present at his residence at Hiyangthang at the moment and as such, based on the information, a team of Imphal East commando immediately rushed to Hiyangthang Mayai Leikai after providing information to Imphal West police control room and arrested Loitongbam Raghumani at around 6.20 pm.

On further search of Raghumani's residence, three stolen Honda Activas along with some contraband drug items with puffing devices, equipment for tempering high security number plates and a phone were recovered from his possession by the commando team.

On verification, Loitongbam Raghumani revealed that he is involved in selling stolen vehicles procured from vehicle lifters by tampering the vehicle registration number plates, to willing buyers.

The arrested persons, along with the recovered stolen vehicles and seized drug items, were handed over to Heingang PS for necessary legal action later, the SP said.

The SP continued that on the other hand, another team of Imphal East commando, while conducting a normal patrol at Koirengei bazaar area, found one scooter (Honda Dio) abandoned near the bank of Imphal river and recovered it at around 8 pm yesterday as well.
