Imphal, October 12 2019:
Members of ADC, Ukhrul, have submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren Singh urging to discourage the erection of Anglo-Kuki War memorial stone on October 17 .
The memo appealed to the State Government to urgently intervene into the issue for peaceful existence and communal harmony and alleged that the inscription in the memorial stone 'in defense of our ancestral land and freedom' by the organisers is historically wrong and as such the memorial stone cannot carry such inscription.
It continued that the conflict between the Kukis and the Nagas in the early 1990s is still fresh in the minds of the people and a repeat of such incident is not desirable and added that to prevent any impact to the emotions and sentiments of the public, the event needs to be discouraged at the earliest.
Expressing concern that negative backlash might occur if the event is not stopped, it continued that the event might disturb the coming 3rd State level Shirui Lily Festival and Ukhrul subdivision centenary which is scheduled to be held from October 16 to 19 in Ukhrul district and prayed for the Government to intervene in this regard at the earliest.
