Man stabbed to death

Imphal, July 05 2011:
A man was stabbed to death by some people who came along with him at New Checkon area under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district today afternoon.
According to information culled from the site of the incident, 41-year old Ngachonmi Siro of Chongdan village under Kasom Khullen Sub-Division of Ukhrul district but staying in Mantripukhri area was stabbed by some people who came along with him inside a tea hotel located opposite to New Checkon Maringlane at around 3 pm.
They were having tea together when the incident took place.
After stabbing Ngachonmi, the attackers immediately fled from the scene.
Some other people who were nearby at that relevant time took Ngachonmi to JNIMS.
But he succumbed to the injuries.
There were injury marks made by sharp weapons on his left side stomach, chest and head.
According to Ram Dayal (27) of Begusarai, Bihar, the owner of the tea hotel, where the incident took place, he saw seven or eight of them coming together.
All of them spoke in Tangkhul dialect and they ordered tea and snacks for Rs 70.When they started arguing, Ram Dayal said he requested them not to fight inside the hotel and was just coming out and standing in front of the hotel when he saw an injured person lying on the floor while the rest fled.
Police have recovered one Heijrang (Kitchen knife), some leaflets related to muster roll of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and attendance sheets from the scene of the crime.
Some local villagers who knew Ngachonmi informed that before the incident, Ngachonmi visited the SDO of Kasom Khullen, who functions from a place in Maringlane for the conveniences of the people.
Even though they could not identity the attackers, the villagers suspected that the incident may have taken place following some argument or disagreement over issues related to MGNREGS.
