An alleged Kuki National Army (KNA) activist has been apprehended by locals of Uripok Bachaspati Maning Leikai today but luckily escaped the now familiar public thrashing as a mobile police team reached the spot and took the individual into their custody.
The incident occurred at around 5.30 am wherein the arrested youth identified as one Anoubam Naocha Sharma (29) showed up at the residence of a Government employee namely Ch Priyokumar Singh for extortion purpose.
Recounting that Naocha had been at his residence on three earlier occasions as well, Priyokumar said local youths upon hearing the commotion between him and 29 year old rushed inside the residential complex and got hold of the intruder.
According to one T Chingsanglakpa secretary of Uripok Bachaspati Maning Leikai Development Association, whose members were among the youths involved in nabbing extortionist, Naocha is a drug abuser and some months back managed to flee from the clutches of RIMS Hospital security guards by piercing a securityman with an injection needle.
On the otherhand, advisor of the local youth organisation one M Tombi appealed to all concerned to desist from any activity that could create panic in the locality in the name of armed groups and desired that Government take all possible measures to protect life and property of the citizens.
Besides, Naocha the police team also seized a scooter of the apprehended person.
Meanwhile, Sr SP (IW) L Kailun confirming the arrest of Naocha also mentioned the arrestee's other aliases as Binod and Ningtamba s/o A Shyamkumar Sharma of Uripok Bachaspati
Leikai.
Naocha is informed to have disclosed that he joined the KNA six days back through one Ngairakpam Biren Singh of Singjamei Khongnang Pheidekpi and besides Biren worked under one Iboyaima Singh also from Khongnang Pheidekpi.
However, in sharp contrast to information provided by the Uripok Bachaspati Maning Leikai locals, the SP's statement claimed that Naocha was arrested by Imphal West commandos at around 7.30 am 'based on credible information'.
Another UG activist was arrested by Imphal West commandos from Lamshang bazar at around 3.15 pm yesterday.
identifying the arrested person as one Laishram Santa Singh alias Suraj (40) s/o (L) L Modhu Singh of Kakwa Bazar but staying a New Checkon, the statement inferred Santa as an activist of the KCP (Kokai faction).
Santa joined the KCP organisation in November 2006 through one Kokai of Mongsangei and worked in the finance section of the outfit.
