Imphal, March 25 2015:
Strongly objecting to the efforts of some people in trying to change 'Moirang Sendra' to 'Thanga Sendra,' Kege Moirang Apunba Lup (KEMAL) has urged the State Government to intervene and ensure that no blunder is committed.
Addressing a press meet today at Moirang, president of KEMAL, Surjit Kumar Khuman said that there is development deficit in the historic town of Moirang, located about 45 kms from Imphal, although the place has historical significance.
Many historical events have made Moirang one of the most sought after tourist destinations of the State for foreign and domestic tourists.

But, the place has been lagging behind in various infrastructural development programmes making it one of the most underdeveloped towns of Bishnupur district, added Surjit.
The sub-treasury office which was set up near Moirang College about 15 years back is yet to serve its purpose, he said.
Surjit said that other Govt offices like the SDO office and SDC office are in pathetic conditions which need repairing.
Officials of the SDO office stated that many requests have been made to the authorities concerned, but till today no work has been taken up.
KEMAL also urged the authorities concerned to resume construction works of the retaining wall of Moirang river which was started some years back.
Commenting on the Diary Farm which has stopped functioning for the last 20 years, Surjit said that it is very unfortunate for the people of Moirang that the farm has now been left defunct instead of serving the people.
Asserting that the Public Distribution System (PDS) has completely failed at Moirang, general secretary of KEMAL, Shantikumar said that residents of Moirang have been receiving only one litre of kerosene per month for the past five years when people of other areas of Bishnupur district are receiving five litres per month.
Moreover, the Ward Development officials of Moirang are not functioning normally, he alleged while adding that the funds for Ward Development Committee are misappropriated.
He further urged the authorities concerned to look into the conditions of Community Health Centre, Government schools and colleges within Moirang subdivision in the larger interest of the society and student community.
Mention may be made that KEMAL has submitted a memorandum on Feb 23 to the Chief Minister and again a reminder on March 17, demanding that the hardships faced by the people of Moirang be looked into.
KEMAL further warned of launching various forms of agitation if the demands are not met.
