SDSA gears up for 'Clean Senapati river'

The Senapati District Student's Association (SDSA) today visited Senapati river which has become a dumping site in order to take up appropriate steps to keep the river clean, reports our correspondent.
Senapati district administration has been organising extensive campaigns as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Continuing the cleanliness campaign, SDSA team has warned the truck owners commuting to and fro Imphal to refrain from dumping wastes along the NH-2 especially between Kangpokpi and Khongnem.
Disciplinary action would be taken against those who defy the instruction of SDSA, the team said.
Despite availability of dustbins in every colonies along the river bank, Senapati river has turned into a drain where all wastes coupled by toilet outlets are emptied into the river.
SDSA team also expressed dismayed over the poor garbage management at Kathikho Karong where the waste is dumped and burned without any proper procedure.
With an objective to clean Senapati river, SDSA team led by its president Pungdi Celestine and senior members including ADC, Senapati Members and others visited different sites in and around Senapati bazar.
The team also visited the Monday market slaughtering sites, iconic Senapati bridge, Yapoa Colony bridge, river colony and Karong Senapati Town Committee garbage dumping site at Kathikho Karong.
Expressing concern over the poor waste management system, the team said that mass cleanliness cum awareness drives would be organised along Senapati river in order to prevent dumping of waste into one of the tributaries of Barak river.
The team said that the cleaning project will be participated by district administration, ADC, Senapati, village leaders, residents, students, civil bodies and stake holders.
