Imphal, October 19 2008:
Raising strong objection to creation of 17-Dolang constituency as published in the draft publication of the Autonomous District Council Delimitation Commission, the Thangal (Longjang) Area ADC Circle Demand Committee has demanded that the same constituency should be named Thangal (Longjang) constituency.
Speaking to reporters today, chairman of the Thangal Area ADC Demand Committee Meishongam said that the proposed Dolang constituency is constituted by seven villages.
Among these, the Thangal villages are larger geographically as well as demographically.
Decrying the act of naming the constituency by taking the name of Dolang village after sidelining the Thangal village which also has historical relevance, the chairman said that under such circumstances, no village chiefs can accept the draft publication.
The villagers' disapproval to the act of naming six villages (out of the total seven villages) as Dolang was already conveyed to the Delimitation Committee Chairman, he mentioned.
A meeting of the Tamenglong District Delimitation Committee headed by the Tamenglong DC as Chairman held on August 7 this year recommended that the constituency be named after Thangal (Longjang) village instead of Dolang, Meishongam informed.
Alleging that one Alar submitted a representation to the Delimitation Committee with forged signatures of six village chiefs after the lapse of the period given to submit any objection to the draft publication demanding to name the constituency after Dolang, the Thangal Area ADC Circle Demand Committee asked to why they received the complaint with forged signatures after the lapse of the period given to submit objections.
The chairman further cautioned that it would not bring any positive result if the Delimitation Commission goes ahead against the wish and aspirations of the people.
