Imphal, January 06:
The non-completion of the implementation of National Program for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in Manipur is making life hard for hundreds of Persons With Disabilities in CCpur and Manipur.
A sum of Rs 1.80 crores had already been allocated and sanctioned for Manipur by the Central Government under the scheme for the year 2002-03.Informed sources said that only one District Disabled Rehabilitation Centre had been established in Manipur till date while the scheme envisaged the setting up of DDRC in all districts of Manipur.
The present one for IE District is located at the JN Hospital, Imphal.
It may be mentioned that the Central Government had send PS Srinivas, Asst Prof, RRTC to Imphal on May 26 last year to assess, guide and monitor the implementation of NPRDP in .Manipur.
After meeting the concerned Authorities here, it was agreed that the DDRC should be set up in all Districts of Manipur within 3 months of his visit, sources informed.
It is also reliably learned that even though Need Study Camps and Identifications of disabled persons had already been done for IW and east Districts way back in 2001, no materials were till date received from ALIMCO, Patna which is the authorized supplier of the Government even after a lapse of one year.
When such camps will be held for other districts is not known.
Some officials in the field, said that they are receiving numerous enquiries by disabled persons on when the materials will be coming.
