AMUCO urges ahead of Unity Day

Ahead of the Unity Day observance on June 18 All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has appealed to every section of the society to join in paying obeisance to the 18 martyred souls as well as attend the public meeting.
Speaking to newspersons at its office today, AMUCO president KT Rahman said people of Manipur will never forget the sacrifices made by the 18 persons to protect the State's territorial integrity.
On the upcoming observance, he said floral tributes would be paid at the Kekrupat memorial complex of the 18 martyrs at 9 am of June 18 after which a public meeting would be held at THAU ground, Thangmeiband from 11 am onward.
Conveying that Amuco will seek both financial and material assistance from the public along with urging public transport operators to contribute their mite, Rahman made a fervent appeal to all concerned to make donations.
AMUCO will also organise a protest Day observance on june 14 while on the Unity Day observance, L Rajkumar's son Gulson, Ksh Romiyo's child Golde and Sobita, who lost one of her legs will be honoured with presentation of gifts, the president informed.
Rajkumar, Romiyo and Sobita were among several individuals who were killed or injured during the massive public unrest in the aftermath of the Bangkok Declaration and subsequent signing of the ceasefire agreement (without territorial limit) between the Naga rebel group NSCN (IM) and Govt of India in 2001 .
More than 18 persons got killed in the aftermath of the sustained agitation against the 'ceasefire without territorial limit' truce, he reminded.
Earlier, to underline the stand of the people on the issue, a massive public rally was organised by AMUCO in 1997 to reaffirm the demand that there should be no distortion of Manipur's boundary in appeasing the armed group, highlighted Rahman.
