Drugs worth Rs 19.44 Cr seized

Tengnoupal, October 20 2019:
In a major blow to smugglers, Tengnoupal police seized contraband items worth over Rs 19.44 crore yesterday.
Based on inputs that huge quantity of brown sugar was going to be smuggled from Myanmar to India through the porous border, the district police launched a mobile frisking and checking at Dalpati area when a scooter Suzuki Access 125 was asked to stop at around 5.30 pm.

The driver however fled under cover of darkness leaving behind his vehicle and two gunny bags.
When checked, the gunny bags were found containing brown sugar weighing about 9.722 kg.
The estimated cost of the brown sugar in the international market is over Rs 19.44 crore, said police.
Moreh police have taken up a case under ND&PS (Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act.
Briefing media persons today, Tengnoupal SP Th Vikramjit said that police are on to identify and nab the smuggler who fled yesterday.
