4 UPPK cadres lay down arms

Four cadres of the armed outfit United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) laid down arms and surrendered to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today.
The surrender function was held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat this afternoon.
Speaking at the occasion, Ibobi stated that the four cadres came from Myanmar through Moreh and they surrendered to the Government through Bishnupur SP Th Radhashyam.
The UPPK cadres who laid down arms have been identified as Akoijam Surjit alias Bung alias Ayonba (30) of Iroishemba Manghiden, RK Samson alias Thabalchaba (30) of Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak, Okram Rojen alias Rohen of Keibi Heikak Mapal and Ningthoujam Naoba alias abung alias Kanbiba alias Tenis (24) of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou.
They brought along three German-made Heckler & Koch 33 assault rifles, one A-1 rifles, three magazines each and a larger number of assorted ammunition.
The four cadres joined the UPPK in different periods and they underwent training in the outfit's camps located in Myanmar.
Ibobi stated that the four cadres sent feelers bringing the message of their intention to re-join the national mainstream.

"They are most welcomed by the State Government and the Police Department", the Chief Minister told media persons.
He further assured that maximum assistance would be extended to the surrendered cadres so that they can live their lives under a peaceful and secure atmosphere.
To a query about the State rehabilitation programme for surrenderees, Ibobi informed that the State Government has considering to absorb the surrenderees in State forces or para-military forces in consultation with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Nevertheless, it would require examination of their (surrenderees) educational qualification and physical fitness.
Other options are also opened to them, the Chief Minister stated.
Works Minister K Ranjit and DGP Y Joykumar too attended the surrender function.
To a query about the dramatic escape of KCP-MTF's commander Sunil Meitei from police custody, Ibobi remarked that it was never expected.
Nevertheless, the Police Department has been mobilising all its resources to re-arrest Sunil Meitei, he added.
