Guwahati, April 08 2011:
The Northeast on Friday joined the Nation wide movement against corruption led by social activist Anna Hazare in New Delhi while in Assam it is the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, a farmers' union taking charge.
In Mizoram organisations such as Society for Social Action (SASO) and Federation of Mizoram TRade Union (FOMTU) are spearheading the anti-corruption movement.
In Assam, the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, led by its general secretary Akhil Gogoi has been vocal in the last one year against corruption.
With the Hazare led anti-corruption movement sweeping across the country, Akhil Gogoi has found just the right dose to rejuvenate his mission.
In Arunachal Pradesh, however, several organizations have joined hands to march against a different kind of corruption moral in the State's police force.
They will be marching across the State capital, Itanagar on Saturday to protest the MMS the police had made by forcing two minors to have sex in custody.
The police in Daporijo, headquarters of Upper Subansiri district, had in June 2009 picked up a boy and girl, both in their early teens, took them to a police station and ordered them to have sex.
They then recorded the minors' sexual act on their mobile phones.
The matter was kept under wraps until the MMS was circulated last month.
On March 16, the father of one of the two minors in the MMS, lodged a complaint following which four policemen were arrested while one is still absconding.
The MMS raised a storm in the Arunachal Assembly, but several social organizations were not happy with the mere suspension of the cops.
"They deserve nothing less than death penalty," said Bengia Tolum, chairperson of the Arunachal Indigenous Tribal Forum.
Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society president Gumri Ringu has called out to all the pressure groups, Opposition political parties to come out and raise their voice against such injustice.
Accordingly, Friday was finalized as the day to rally against "police atrocity, corruption and vulgarity" .
