NEC announces cash rewards

The North Eastern Council (NEC) has announced cash rewards for sports persons of the North East region who won medals in the Commonwealth Games 2010 and Asian Games 2010 to the tune of Rs 10 lakhs for gold, Rs 5 lakhs for silver and Rs 3 lakhs for each bronze medal.
The cash rewards come under NEC's scheme "Chairman's Sports Award for Excellence in International and National Sports by the Sportsmen/Sportswomen from North Eastern Region" .
The outstanding sports persons selected for the cash rewards include M Suranjoy (Boxing), Y Renubala (Weightlifting), L Bombayla (Archery), Ng Sonia (Weightlifting), Kh Bheigyabati (Archery), A Sandhyarani (Weightlifting), L Monica (Weightlifting), W Sandhyarani (Wushu), M Bimoljit (Wushu) and MC Mary Kom (Boxing) .
M Suranjoy will be richer by Rs 13 lakhs for winning a gold in the Commonwealth Games and a bronze in the Asian Games.
Y Renubala and L Bombayla will get Rs 10 lakhs each for winning one gold medal each in the Commonwealth Games.

Ng Sonia will get Rs 5 lakhs for winning a silver in the Commonwealth Games.
Kh Bheigyabati, A Sandhyarani and L Monica would get Rs 3 lakhs each for winning bronze medals in the Commonwealth Games.
W Sandhyarani would be feted with Rs 5 lakhs for winning a silver in the Asian Games while M Bimoljit and MC Mary Kom would be rewarded with Rs 3 lakhs each for winning the bronze in the Asian Games.
The NEC has sanctioned Rs 58 lakhs to the Director, National Sports Academy Management Society Manipur for this purpose informed a source.
