Imphal, September 04 2020:
The All Zeliangrong Organisation (AZO), Imphal Valley has accused the Tribal Affairs & Hills Minister of tampering the tribal museum the fund of which is sanctioned by the Central Government in the name of freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu.
Speaking to media persons today, AZO Manipur Valley president Meibon Phaomei said that a committee constituted in 2014-15 has been lobbying with the Central Government through the Vishwa Samvad Kendra Bharat to set up Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Museum.
Out of several museums sanctioned by the Government of India to be set up in seven States in the names of freedom fighters, Manipur got one.
The sanction letter made it clear that the museum should be set up in the name of tribal woman freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu, Meibon Phaomei claimed.
However, the Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister has been trying to take the tribal museum to Makhel, Senapati after manipulating the sanction letter, he alleged.
Taking advantage of the Minister's wrongdoing, the Kuki Inpi Manipur recently stated that the tribal museum should not be set up in the name of Rani Gaidinliu and this a matter of grave concern, the AZO Manipur Valley president remarked.
All kinds of protest demonstrations including a complete ban on all development works being executed along NH 37 would be launched if the Government does not change its position on the matter, he warned.
He appealed to the State Government and the Minister concerned to withdraw their steps to build the particular museum at Makhel within the current month and set up the same museum either in Noney district or Tamenglong district.
He further appealed to the Kuki Inpi Manipur to study the facts first before making any statement in the media on the matter.
