Imphal, November 03 2016:
Asserting that the ongoing economic blockade will continue until and unless the reservation imbroglio at Manipur University is resolved, the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) said that its blockade started from midnight of October 28 .
In a statement, ATSUM said that it is unfortunate that the print and electronic media has sidelined the issue of the tribals by magnifying the UNC's blockade and reducing the reservation issue into a microscopic item.
ATSUM has nothing to do with the UNC bandh as the issues are different, said the statement and added that it neither supports nor condemn the UNC's course of action.
It was not the UNC which first announced the blockade, said ATSUM and added that schemes to over shadow the stir of ATSUM is a ploy to divide the tribals.
The student body also took strong exception to the news report carried by a daily under the caption, 'UNC bandh cripples NHs' and added that this is a malafide intention to split the unity and solidarity of the tribals.
The sentence 'supported by ATSUM' is also misleading and unfounded, added the student body.
ATSUM further said that all the tribal students who have been admitted to various PG courses in MU in violation of the proceedings adopted by MUTSU and notice of ATSUM on October 31 should explain their stand on November 5 .
