Ukhrul, September 30 2023:
Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has expressed its discontent over the announcement by the centre's BJP government to hold cleanliness day on Sunday, while calling it as a direct insult on the sentiments of minority Christian community.
In a statement, TNL president David K Shimray stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a nationwide cleanliness drive on October 1, which falls on a Sunday, while adding that the same was nothing but a direct insult on the sentiments of minority Christian community of the country.
Shimray continued that as October 2 of every year has been observed in India as Cleanliness Day, this announcement by the PM defied logic and reason.
"The TNL, as the apex body of Tangkhul Naga tribe, cannot help but express dismay at such blatant display of disrespect and intolerance of the socio-religious diversity which has been a distinct hallmark of the nation," he added.
