Imphal, September 30 2023:
The Manipur Baptist Convention has urged the Government to reconsider its proposal to carry out a cleanliness drive on Sunday, October 1 .
While maintaining cleanliness and hygiene is important, organising the drive on Sunday may go against the beliefs and practices of a significant portion of the citizens, it said.
Sunday holds great significance for a substantial portion of our population as a day of religious observance, worship, and rest.
It is a time when families gather, communities come together, and individuals find solace and spiritual nourishment.
Many individuals work tirelessly throughout the week and consider Sunday as their designated day of rest.
Any activity that disrupts this sacred day for a significant portion of our citizens should be approached with caution and sensitivity, said the Manipur Baptist Convention.
Appealing to the Government to change the day and time of the cleanliness drive, MBC said a more inclusive and flexible approach to promoting cleanliness will yield better results and foster harmony among all citizens.
MBC informed all its constituent Churches that the Sunday service will be held as scheduled.
