RIMS begins psychological intervention programme for inmates of relief camp

With an aim to provide psychosomatic relief to the displaced people affected by the ethnic violence in the state and are taking shelter in relief centres, the department of Clinical Psychology, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has initiated a psychological intervention programme for the inmates of relief camp opened at Trade & Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters in this regard at the relief centre, RIMS Clinical Psychology department head Dr Samita said that the department of Clinical Psychology, RIMS under the aegis of Imphal West DC has started meeting inmates of the relief camp opened at Lamboikhongnangkhong and provided various techniques to overcome their psychological issues and problems.
Dr Samita further informed that the inmates in relief camps are facing huge psychological problems which they do not share with anyone as they have no one to narrate and share their problems.
Considering this factor, RIMS psychology department is trying to.
make the victims of ethnic violence come out and share their grievances and help them achieve psychological relaxation.
Various techniques including techniques to enable people having sleeping problem to sleep, reduce stress and h manage anger will be taught to the inmates of the relief camp, she said and added that if the inmates follow this techniques, they will able to reduce and overcome their problems to a certain extent.
She also stated that such psychological intervention programmes will conducted in other relief camps opened in different parts of the state.
Presently there are around 560 displaced people from Kala Pahar, Kangpokpi, Motbung, Serou and Churachandpur in the relief camp opened at Manipur Trade & Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong.
