Tangkhul Students' Union, better known as Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) in Tangkhul dialect, has urged the State Government to make alternative arrangements for the students who cannot keep up with the online classes to access/entertain education/classes.
Speaking to the media person, TKS president Shimri Raising apprised that many of the students in Ukhrul district cannot avail the opportunity of accessing the online classes that are being conducted by their respective schools owing to problems like poor mobile networks and lack of mobile phones among the poor students.
He said that the introduction of online classes has been more of an annoyance than blessing in Ukhrul district as many students who cannot afford smart-phones or tablets and those living in poor network areas have been compelled to stop enjoying the 'Right to Education' while their counterparts in valley districts were enjoying the same facility/opportunity.
"The State Government ought to work out a strategy or an alternative arrangement to make the students in Ukhrul district and in similar places enjoying classes", he said adding that allowing conducting physical classes in the schools with adherence to strict protocols or SOPs and mutual understanding between school authorities and parents would be a practical solution.
He also conveyed that schools should be made to take lesser admission fees for the academic session 2021-22 while the monthly fees from April 2021 until the resumption of physical classes should not be more than 50 percent of the existing fee structure.
Highlighting that the substance abuse among the youths has been on a rise in Ukhrul district, the TKS president appealed to the district law and order enforcement agencies to strictly monitor the situation.
