Imphal, November 03 2012:
Unable to cope with the constant loss, the State Transport Department is said to have suspended semi-low floor service from October 27 .
The service commenced from June 14 with 12 out of 14 buses provided by the Union Urban Development Ministry under the first phase of Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission (JNU-RM) being put into service.
It may be mentioned that these modern buses could not reach Imphal in time as expected due to prolonged halt in Guwahati.
After reaching Imphal again, commencement of the semi-low floor service was delayed for months keeping the buses unused at the complex of Manipur State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), Moirangkhom.
However, much to the delight of the general public, 12 buses were put into service after handing it over to the Manipur Police Department from June 14 to July 16 this year.

According to a reliable source, due to some errors in management, the first 10 days of the service handled by the police witnessed losses.
However, the service began earning profit with the rectification of the mistake in management, it added.
Then the service was handed over to the State Transport Department, the source said.
The loss incurred during the service handled by Manipur Police was made up by the Transport Department as the service was reaping profit.
However, the service went to constant loss from mid October.
The daily loss accumulated into a hefty deficit as the service entered last week of October.
The service of the 12 semi-low floor buses was, at last, compelled to suspend from October 27 as it could not even bear the wages of the drivers and handymen.
