CCpur, August 31 2017:
The JAC against anti-tribal bills today observed the second anniversary of the tribal unrest that saw them rising in unprecedented unison against three controversial Bills at the Tribal Martyrs Park, Mata Dam .
Agriculture Minister V Hangkhanlian, Chairman ADC Churachandpur Khaipao Haokip along with several ADC members and local CSO leaders also joined the event where homage was paid to the youth who were killed in the massive protest two years ago .
|
The youth, who have since been addressed since as Tribal Martyrs, were laid to rest on May 24 this year, after 632 days, following an agreement between the Government and the JAC .
The sacrifices made by the 'martyrs' for the love of their land, the awakening of the tribal people following the movement and the need for protection of the tribal people's ancestral lands, rights and identity are the
issues that dominated today's event and speeches .
As the JAC had called for a closure of schools and business houses today, Churachandpur town wore a deserted look while road traffic also recorded minimal movement despite the fact that traffic was exempted from the call.
