A bit of good news for state government employees.
If the Reserve Bank of India, RBI, removes the current ban on encashments of state government bills and cheques tomorrow, as state finance department officials are confident it will, they can expect to start receiving their long pending salaries by Thursday.
According to finance department sources, the Union finance ministry released a sum of Rs 97 crores as the state's monthly entitlement yesterday.
As the state's overdraft with the RBI stands at Rs 93 crores, an official communiqu� from the RBI removing the ban is expected by tomorrow.
The sources said that there is no word yet on whether the vote of accounts for the state which Parliament had passed in its monsoon session has received the President's assent.
However it is expected that the Presidential assent will be received by tomorrow at the latest.
The sources said the department expects to be able to start paying the pending two months salaries of government employees by September 13.
