MSPP chalks out stir plans

Imphal, July 07 2014:
With the State Government failing to address the long pending demands of Panchayats including devolution of power despite serving an ultimatum, Manipur State Panchayat Parishad (MSPP) has decided to launch a series of agitation including non-cooperation movement until their demands are met.
As a first phase of its agitation, the Parishad will be staging sit-in-protest at all the nine block headquarters in the valley on July 9 to be followed at headquarters of the respective districts on July 11.If the government fails to provide positive response despite the protests then the Parishad will organize a mass rally on July 14 .
The demands of the Parishad include awarding of 100 days works under MGNREGS to villagers; appointment of competent BDOs; merging of DRDA with Zilla Parishad; increase of honorarium for Panchayats, etc.
